Youth Building Assets for a Viable Future

Our Past Projects

Financial Literacy Pilot, Summer 2007

From late June until early August 2007, WorkUp held a series of financial literacy workshops for at-risk youth interested in arts careers through the DC Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. Throughout the summer, 35 youth learned about setting goals, budgeting, bank accounts, saving money, borrowing money, and long-term financial planning.

Peppermint Bark, Winter 2007

WorkUp's Youth Peppermint Bark Business Venture is a youth-run social enterprise that raises funds to serve low-income youth and their families in the economically distressed Randle Highlands neighborhood in southeast DC. In partnership with Southeast DC Partners, WorkUp provides opportunities for youth to gain leadership skills, make financial decisions, and serve other impoverished communities. Through this venture, youth have brought in nearly $10,000 to support neighborhoods in southeast DC, families living in the city dump in Managua, Nicaragua, and victims of human trafficking in New York City.
